U. Sagayam is an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from Tamil Nadu who is known for his honesty and integrity. He has been involved in various high-profile cases that have garnered national attention.
Sagayam was born in a small village in Tamil Nadu and was the son of a farmer. Despite facing financial difficulties, he excelled in his studies and went on to obtain a degree in Mathematics. He then pursued a Master's degree in Computer Applications from PSG College of Technology in Coimbatore.
In 1991, Sagayam joined the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and was assigned to various roles, including District Collector of Namakkal and Madurai. During his tenure as District Collector, Sagayam took on powerful political leaders and businessmen who were involved in corrupt practices.

He even went to the extent of seizing the assets of the mining barons and auctioning them off.
Sagayam's uncompromising attitude towards corruption and his fearless approach to tackling powerful people earned him the nickname "The People's Collector". However, his honesty and integrity also made him enemies within the system. Sagayam was often transferred from one district to another, and his promotion was delayed.
Despite facing numerous challenges, Sagayam remained steadfast in his commitment to fighting corruption. He continued to take on powerful people and became a thorn in the side of corrupt politicians and businessmen. His work was recognized when he was awarded the Magsaysay Award in 2015, which is considered Asia's Nobel Prize.
